Looking for Human resistance fighter and alien occupiers team up

Hi everyone, I'm looking for this novel I saw in Barnes and Noble a few months ago where earth has already been occupied by an alien empire. But the alien magister is new and unproven in his position and way over his head when another group of aliens launches a campaign of galactic genocide and earth is right in their sights for invasion. Now he has to team up with a hardened human resistance fighter if they have any chance of saving earth. I find the dynamic and character description very intriguing, and wonder if anyone else has seen this novel at any point

This sounds like The Course of Empire, Book 1 of the Jao Empire series, by KD Wentworth and Erik Flint.
