Had any of you watched dragon ball, or its sequel z and GT?
I am currently watching dragon ball and enjoying it.

Ye I saw it... didn't like GT tho
Watched it as a kid on tv. It was English dubbe, and when I grew older I thought it was just for kids (not just DBZ but anime in general)... saw it again this last feb/march and my opinion quickly changed

Loved Dragon Ball...really loved DBZ...felt really let down by GT, sorry to say. There was a new DBZ movie out last year, DBZ Battle of the Gods, which is supposed to be pretty good. You're in for a heck of a ride, chongjasmine! :)

ps--if you like DBZ, maybe try the Naruto series...I like it even more than DBZ, especially the manga!

Dragon Ball Z pretty much was my childhood. Brilliant... except it drags out a bit on certain episodes... apparently there is an abridged version on the internet somewhere but I wouldnt know how good that is.

Dragon Ball is also good. But, as others have already said, DBGT was a bit of a let down... I just felt there were too many transformations and the characters were too powerful or boring.

I also really enjoyed playing the fighter videogame Dragonball Z: Technikai 2 - a series which I highly recommend fans of the show buy.

Like most of you, I agree that GT was a letdown.
But then, GT wasn't created by the main author, so it was more like a kind of fanfiction.

I like lots of anime but not this series. Ive seen quite a few episodes. I just don't see the point of it.

My first exposure was through DBZ Kai, up through the Cell arc. It was entertaining, though yeah, it does drag (I can't imagine how bad the original version's filler was).

I love DBZ Abridged.

"Consider yourself beef jerky while I'm Filet Mignon."
"Ooh, I like both those things!"
"...I'm going to start beating you now. I don't know when I'll stop."

Me and a friend marathoned through GT last year - definitely have to agree with those who see it as a step down. Some wonderful ideas at points, but very few of them are realised well and the pacing and tone are all over the place - particularly noticeable with the slow-paced more comedic Black Star Dragon Ball arc leading into slow-paced but more Z-like Baby arc, then following those up with the super-rushed Super-17 arc! The focus staying on Goku so much is pretty problematic, too, as is his completely inconsistant power scaling - turning him into a child should have been used as a way of keeping him out of the picture and letting the new generation of characters shine, by scaling his powers back to early Dragon Ball levels in accordance with his age. By all means, involve him with the adventures, but give another character the chance to be the hero for a change!

Love Dragon Ball and Z in spite of all the filler, though I do find the Red Ribbon arc of Dragon Ball a bit of a slog - I've heard it's much more streamlined in the manga, so maybe I'll try to read through at some point and see if it changes my opinion on it. In my opinion the high point of the series as a whole is the period from the Demon King Piccolo's appearence through to the defeat of Freeza - the way the tone and the art style develops through this period combine to form what I've come to think of as the quintessential Dragon Ball look and feel. However, I'm also a big fan of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai and the Cyborgs/Cell arcs, and though they're not quite in my absolute top-rated section of the series, were I to marathon the series again I'd probably use these as my starting and finishing points.

Still not seen Battle of Gods, but I've heard good things - with Resurrection "F" on the near horizon maybe now is a good time to catch up. Since these new films are supposed to be within the main continuity (unlike the previous movies - Return My Gohan excepted if you're following the anime's additions), I wonder if they'll set any after Goku begins training Oob, or if they're holding off to avoid explicitly kicking GT out of the animated continuity?

I heard about that, and it's going to have the original Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who didn't have anything to do with DBGT, which was pretty lame.

It quickly disappeared at the box office.:)

Dragonball does seem for kids...at first. Then you notice that Bulma is a distinctly...physically oriented young lady, there is extensive character development, particularly of VILLAINS and, most noticeably there are some of the best lines I've heard anywhere, even in movies or books.

"We're your worst nightmare"
"I'm not afraid of dreams"

Only one of many, and not the best.

Indeed - apparently Akira Toriyama has a bit more involvement than he did with Dragon Ball GT, so it'll be interesting to see if the upcoming Dragon Ball Super is a more successful continuation of the narrative. Given his involvement with the recent movies and the stated intention for them to be canonical to the manga's storyline, I'd be surprised if characters such as Beerus and Whis didn't turn up in the new series.

Apparently the series starts airing in July over in Japan - current guess seems to be July 5th, as that's the week after the Buu arc of Dragon Ball Kai finishes its run, but it's possible there could be a break. Either way, I doubt there's much more than a month to go, so hopefully some concrete info about the series other than the title should start to emerge over the next few weeks.
