I remember reading a book description sometime between 1985-1989 in the Science Fiction Book Club's monthly booklet / reply card package.
The story was NOT The Princess Bride, but had a similar characteristic in that the heroine was a farm girl (or village girl) who became a princess, or was a lost princess, or was some form of farmgirl / princess hybrid. And she had a fair amount of misfit companions that helped her on a quest. I seem to remember a dwarf, but this was nearly 30 years ago, so I don't trust my memory!
