Anyone recommend software, prefferably free that backs up email. Something like Dropbox would be good.:)

Are we talking about web-based e-mails (such as Gmail or Hotmail), or ones that you've picked up using a desktop client like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird?

This should help: Backup Windows Mail Messages and Contacts in Vista

It's possible to use the "Export" function within Windows Mail to export all of your e-mails and contacts and store them in a folder - that folder could be within Dropbox, or a similar service, or you could .zip the folder and store the .zip file in a service like Dropbox.

It's also possible to import your backups back into Windows Mail if you need to in the future.

Windows Livemail downloads from a webmail address but also leaves the messages where they are, so they're effectively backed up already. (It also removes the messages from the webmail account when you permanently delete them in Livemail.)

Don't know if that's available for Vista though.
