Hi all - newbie poster, so hope it's okay to open with a request. (Please let me know if it isn't.)
I'm looking for a book I first read ten to fifteen years ago. It's set on an asteroid or somesuch that has been turned by generation after generation of species into a travelling space hotel and leisure centre. Humans currently have control of it. The principle character is, I think, the captain or controller of it, a woman.
At one point she gets trapped in the centre of the asteroid with a couple of colleagues and can't escape. The solution is to wait there for a civilisation to evolve that can get them out - they are very long-lived! During this time it transpires that the asteroid was not originally a hotel but a prison for a creature still residing at its heart.
I have a feeling it was a one-word title, and that it was newly written at the time I read it.
Any information on what it might be would be gratefully received. At the moment all Google can tell me is deals on hotels, which is a bit off the mark.
Cheers
Nic
