Where is the Peter F. Hamilton thread?

I'm new here and found it very curious that Peter F. Hamilton does not have a forum in the authors section. He is without question a giant in the hard sci fi and space opera genre and yet he seems to be missing.

Wondering if there is a reason for this or it just that it has not been started yet?

Thanks!

So far as I'm aware, there are not that many threads about him - that's the main criteria for setting up an author board - once an author has a number of threads specifically about their works then a subforum to make it easier to find those discussions becomes inevitable.

I'll move this thread to Feedback as well, so others can comment as appropriate. :)

Understood, thanks!

Then I guess this thread presents my entry toward a PFH sub-forum. :)

I have to say it's been quite a few years since I read the Night's Dawn trilogy but I think I'm getting ready to read it again. It was the definition of EPIC. And it felt like so much more than just scifi. The ideas Hamilton presents are truly fascinating.

I'm just finishing up the Revelation Space series by Reynolds and I can see so much inspiration from PFH in there. It would be interesting to see some kind of universe crossover with the those two or maybe a whole new series with Hamilton writing from the point of view of one faction and Reynolds the other. Something like that, anyway I think they could come up with some incredible stuff.

Just a thought...

I remembered Hamilton as an author I had read many years ago so I downloaded and just finished "The Great North Road" by him. Maybe he's getting too old but I found many parts of this work just plain irritating, way too much superfluous detail about absolutely nothing. I found myself skimming through large blocks of pages just to get through the needless digressions. It was kind of disappointing given that I had a largely positive impression left in my mind from some time earlier.

I was surprised there wasn't a Hamilton thread too.

He gets a bit carried away with the sex scenes (especially awkward when listening to audiobook in a car at traffic lights) but the stories are certainly epic and great fun.

I think he can be a bit hit and miss though. I've only read the Void Trilogy and Fallen Dragon and I actually enjoyed them both but some other books are meant to be quite weak.

That said, I agree that he is an influential writer and I'm surprised he's not been discussed on here more.

Maybe not as influential as I thought?

I liked Great North Road myself. The ending was a surprise. I have read much (all?) of what PFH has written and like his flow. The detail helps paint a better picture of the worlds/universe he creates although sometimes he repeats a term so much that you think he might be getting paid by the word ("enzyme-bonded concrete" anyone???).

Check out Reddit, which has a lot of PFH content, including some Q&A's hosted by him. I think I am going to spend some more time there.

He definitely doesn't get the respect he deserves around the world, certainly when it comes to the awards.
