Sekrit Santa 33 1/3 -- The Guessing Thread

Hey, Remedy admitted to which story he wrote ... I think. :p

There seems to be a growing consensus on Victoria, as usual, but (unusually) only one correct guess on hope so far.

Ah! I can't believe I let the other part of this slide!

So Hope, at the time of your posting, only had one correct guess as to her authorship. Well, she only has three distincts: 2, 1 and 8 (at the time of your post).

She had four other guesses, 2 for 4 and 2 for 5, but this fails the logical test in your statement, as if either were hers, you wouldn't have said she only had only one correct guess so far.

So, Hope, I believe, had to write 2, 1 or 8.

2 is British English, leaving only 1 or 8. Personally, until you confirm Victoria as #1, I still think it's Hope. But if it's Victoria, then 8 is Hope, right?

So, I looked at whether the stories were written in British English or American/Canadian English, and assuming that no one intentionally changed their spellings/syntax/punctuation rules to confuse us, ...

The extra one is tough. It is US english, but three of the four potential authors are US or Canadian.

TDZ, by acknowledging consensus concerning Victoria, are you confirming that she is #1? ;)

I can confirm that there is an error in your data-gathering, and also that one person told me they had switched up the US/UK English just to confuse people. :D

Oh, and you guys are all #1 in my book. :D

Can I say how especially flattered I am regarding the guesses on who wrote the piece I wrote?
I dont mind at all that my voice didnt come through, because of who's voice(s) I get mistaken for.

Hm. The numbers get weird in that case, as the number of authors otherwise matches the number of voices.

Nonetheless, I will guess that this crafty trickster is an American or Canadian and that they wrote the story for me. Kind of cheating, I suppose, as I had a much larger sample to work with, but it is a bit off, in that it has mostly British English spellings, but the author missed instal for install and buses for busses. The real tell, though, is that the dialogue quotes are all double instead of single.

Now I have to go back and see who folks thought wrote my story. Dependent on that, it just might be Hope wrote it! :D

EDIT: There doesn't seem to be much consensus for who wrote the story for me, so I stand by my original thought that Hope wrote number 1. At least, I do for now. ;)

I didnt write #1 (I think I can admit to not writting what I didnt write because it's not admitting what I did.)

Well, in that case, will you admit that you did not write #3? :D

Because I think perhaps you did! (And if you did, thank you very much, by the way. It was a great story!)

I cannot admit to having written #3
but that's all I'll not admit to having written for now.

Edit (because no one else has posted since I last did and I have time to not double post after some spotty research and re-skims)

Chirs #4 for Hope
David #6 for Mith
Glisterspeck #9 for Phy
PerpMan #3 for Glisterspeck
Phy #8 for Perp
Ratsy #5 For Jas
Remedy #2 for David
Victoria #1 for Chris

... buses for busses.

Who uses 'busses?' Americans or Brits? (Or Aussies or Canadians?) I've never seen that version of it before, ever. And I'm the daughter of a bus driver. (And I know for a fact that UK sitcom 'On the Buses' was spelt like so, so I'm guessing the Americans).

I also always use double quotations for dialogue, never single.

I might have a go at guessing later if I have time.

Yes! More guesses! More flattery! Hurray! :D

Like hope said, its really nice when someone puts your name next to any one of these fantastic stories, or puts one of our talented Chronners beside my own (not sure if those people should be offended by that).

So far, my Remedial-ness has been suggested as possibly writting:

PARASITES / FATHER / GOLD / THE HEADSTONES OF BOSSINGTON / THE SPEARS AND HAMMERS OF OUTRAGEOUS FORTUNE

Busy boy! ;)

I neither confirm or deny a part in any of the above :p

Edit: Oh no, I've just noticed that hope has sort of admitted to her story, unless she is being deceptive, but that means my guess was completely off for her and I have lost all faith in my future as the worlds greatest detective.

So far, the guesses for my authorship have included 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8.

One of these is correct, but I ain't sayin' which one. :D

(We won't talk about the rather hedged guess that I am possibly one of the authors responsible for 2, 3, 4, 6, and/or 9.)

In technology - especially music production (as far as my experience goes, so Chrispenycate should probably weigh in on this to correct me) - a bus is an analogue signal route or path through which a sound signal travels. In plural these are written (in my manual anyway) as 'busses'. Having said that I doubt it was intended in that way :)

If there are homonyms to be guilty of, I usually am. (Though I dont recall encluding any busses/buses in what I wrote.)

This was busses as plural to bus, the vehicle, which is American English. They were being used for evacuation purposes in the story.

Well, for those moving their multicolor pegs up their Mastermind boards at home, this means DEO wrote 2, 3, or 6. Unless he disguised his Australian-ness. ;)

I worked a complete list out on Sunday, then forgot to post it, and now I can't find the list.

Well there you go. I didn't know that. You Americans and your crazy spellings!

That's something else I've learnt today. Along with the fact that you can still grow a beard in a coma, and a group of tortoises is called a creep.

Yeah yeah.

When I read "buses" my internal voice pronounces it like "Fuzes".

You know, because in English normally a single consonant followed by an "e" makes the previous vowel into a long vowel sound.
