I found this book in Waterstones next to some GRRMs short story collections, I haven't read much of it, but what I have read I have liked. GRRMs characters in this story are nicely different from each other.

However, I will not have a favourite because we all know what happens when you make that mistake.;)

I've not read this one. Please, let us know your impressions.

This book was alright if a little hard going. I felt at times it became disjointed. The characters themselves were not bad but you can tell this was earlier work by GRRM. I dont think he had fully found his voice when he wrote this one, I fairness I should of reviewed this book once I had finished it alas college and work got I the way that idea.

I ultimately this the overall arc of the stories is one of deceit, manipulation and how power can ultimately corrupt even the most honourable of people. You can see some of the ground work for ASOFAI in thise book as well.

I would pick it up from your local library if you can even if its just out of curiosity.

Well, it's disjointed because it is itself a story collection. Or did you find the stories themselves disjointed? And it's not all that early - he started in '71 and I think the first Tuf story was '79 and most are from the mid-80s, after he'd written all his pre-GoT novels and gone into "novel retirement" for awhile. I love those stories myself - probably some of the more science fictional pieces he wrote though he still has the imagination and characterization (and darkness) that the GoT people might like (just guessing, as I haven't read or seen GoT). That said, the Tuf stories do have their lighter moments, too, which I like.

Best thing Martin ever did - read it several times. I'd like Tuf to make a cat for me, too.
