Looking for Paperback Once Read

Mass market paperback. I came across it in 1995 so it had to be published before then. Story has female protagonist, her job is to retrieve memories from the brains of the dead. She lays in one machine and the body is in another and she can transfer thoughts and solves murders this way. The transfer of memories and even personality is commonly done. At one point she gets a tweak to her personality that includes getting turned on by the color orange. During one mind reading she gets a "pearl necklace" which happens to all readers at some point where you can see every moment of your life as a separate event- as if encapsulated in a pearl.
I would really like to find this book again. Thank you for your help.
