Mazinger or Grendizer

As a teen in the late 70's I remember watching Goldorak on french TV (hey I can still sing the opening and closing title songs), when I got back home (Central America) my friends talked about how much they liked Mazinger Z (they particularly enjoyed Aphrodite A and her chest missiles). Only years later did I find out that they were part of the same mecha anime series and that what I knew as Goldorak was also known as UFO Robot Grendizer.

Were these the forerunners of Gundam and Evangelion?

Anyone out there remember this anime series? What's your fave (this series or other mecha)?

hi flyerman11 , i remember those shows and a dozen other super robot and mecha shows .both goldorak and mazinger z were made by go nagai he's an amazing manga writer and artist , there were other good shows so many at the time when super robots were a hit .

but now i mostly watch mecha anime like ( code geass )which is a very good show i recommend the plot is smart and fast paced , the gundam series and neon genesis evangelion
