Left handed frewlap

I was looking for a fictitious item name for a presentation at work the other day, when "a left handed frewlap" popped int my mind.
I'm pretty sure this was in a short story I read in an anthology I got from the library, probably 30 years ago or more.
does it ring a bell with anyone.

It seems to me it was used in much the same way by the character at the beginning of the story, until he made planetfall on a new planet where they actually existed.

Possibly Theodore Sturgeon, but I may just think that because he had a short in the same anthology or something. It was a long time ago.

Maybe "The Godmakers" by Frank Herbert, which some searching indicates contains the term "left-handed froolap"? I don't know for sure, but it's a lead.

Yea I thinks its chapters 3 4 and 5 and if you read those it sounds like it's some sort of inside joke(very inside)

And special thanks for the link, Otistdag, which allowed me to check it a little deeper. My local library almost certainly won't have it, and gawd knows how they'd translate froolap into french anyway.
