I am looking for a novel from this era that starts with an Elf Hunting the last living Dragon. The dragon then heads into it's lair and melts it's horde to protect it's egg.
I can't remember anything really about it but that is either the first chapter or the prologue. I think there was an evil wizard that had possession of the egg or gained possession of it and was trying to hatch it.
I know that it is not Christopher Paolini, but I am trying to find it so that I can re-read this novel and see if there are any others by this author that follow it up.
