Alien priest shook hands with a human heroine; considers it as sex

Hey guys! I was going through R. Lee Smith's website and I stumbled upon her describing a book she read years ago: "I read a book once in which the alien hero kept his reproductive apparatus in the palms of his hands. As a priest sworn to celibacy, he went gloved throughout the story, but it was obvious he was falling in love with the human heroine. At the end of the book, as she stood on the landing dock with her ship behind her, ready to fly away forever, she looked him in the eye and held out her hand. He took his glove off and shook it. It was sex; he knew it; she knew it; no one else knew it, but it wasn’t anyone else’s business."

Unfortunately, she doesn't remember the title of the book. But she mentioned that the book belonged to her mother so i'm guessing it's a fairly old sci-fi novel? I have posted this question on a few sites but so far, no one knows the answer. Crossing my fingers that someone here knows the title. I've been searching for the book for months now but for the life of me, I just can't seem to find it. If you have any idea on what it could be or you know someone who might know the book, please help. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for replying! Anyway, I haven't read them but I've looked through the series and they seem to have this dominant male/submissive female concept which makes me think that it's not it + I've gone through the summaries of each book and there's no mention of a celibate alien falling in love with a human heroine. Sighhh.

Someone found it for me, it's the Captain Areia Darenga trilogy by Francine Mezo. :)

Give it time -- we've got some stellar memories around here, and someone will probably come up with it. In the meantime, hang out and see all the other lovely things we offer. We have discussions on books, movies, TV; lots of silly games; writing discussion, workshop, story challenges. Let us get our tendrils into you, and you'll never leave! :D

ETA: and we type too slowly, sometimes. Stick around anyway! :D
