Are you reading my messages? I just told Parson that very thing! :D

The first Oath of Swords book is free, too. I haven't read those.

ETA: Oath of Swords isn't the series, it's the book. Misremembered from one page to the next. :D

Thanks for the heads up. I have downloaded them too....yay free stuff

Here, I thought I was going to come with the news that Springs shared with me via PM. But I'm glad to see that we are already picking up the free stuff!!!

Grrrr!!!! Why is it I do that??!! Yes indeed it was the blushing Zebra.

Question: What's black and white and read all over? (this joke doesn't make it when written out.) The logical answer is a newspaper. My sarcastic answer was always a blushing Zebra.

I've only read a short story by David Weber before now, so it's nice to be able to dip into a couple of his novels for free.

Thanks, Brian, for pointing me in their direction. :)

Now that I see Parson said this may be the greatest series in SF history...I will have to make sure I try them!

Has anyone here read much David Drake? I see a whack of freebies on Amazon for his books

Before Jim Baen died and Baen (the company) sold out to Amazon, you could get zillions of ebooks in multiple, unencrypted, do-with-as-thou-wilt formats (including mobi/prc formats if you must have that evil proprietary device) including the first dozen HHs and several spinoff books.

As senseless as it seems, the links to individual books have been removed from The Fifth Imperium but the links to the CDs are still available. That's a great place to get started with various Baen addictions.

These two have long been in the Baen free library as they still are along with many from others in the Baen stable. I suspect that is the only reason Amazon is offering them free. Years ago they were some of my earliest ebooks and what made me go on to read the rest of the HH books. So I guess the strategy worked with me! :D

The Baen free library is here.

Ah, but you are the one with the red stripes!

This is true -- I am blue and white and red all over at the moment. :D

And I am blushing a bit at misremembering the series name on that other book.

Well, the devious trick worked: after reading and enjoying** the first two volumes, I've bought Book Three: The Short Victorious War.

** - In spite of some info-dumping (of which I'm quite tolerant anyway) and head-hopping (which I did find distracting, but not enough to stop me from reading on).

I suspect that the trick will work quite a lot. Of course I think highly of Weber, but for the most part his books are entertaining and you want to know more. In my opinion the very best book of the series is book 4 "Field of Dishonor."

Based primarily on your recommendation, Parson, I have spent a huge some -- not far short of £5 -- to purchase Book Four. All I can say is that it had better live up to your billing....
