Hello. New member here.
Looking for a short story from the 1950s. Was in a book or magazine.

Humans extinct after great war. Fighting machines are beginning to fail from age/wear.
Robots attempt to create new robots, but do not succeed.
High points:
Robots create a new body and a new brain, but trying to solder the brain into the shell their great metal claws cause a short circuit and the brain melts.
-
A robot tries to touch a butterfly, but crushes it and feels 'sad'.

Thanks

I would very much like to read this story too, if anyone can find it. One of my favourite stories is almost like this: "For a Breath I Tarry" by Roger Zelasny. No butterfly or melted solder, but everything else. I love it!

Thanks all!

it is "RUST" by Joseph E. Kelleam. Published in 'Astounding Fantasy and Fiction" in 1939.
