Good book, interesting and rather accurate novel about Song dynasty China.
A little slow at first but he has a lot to set up and it moves right along once it gets going.
My main complaint is something I've seen before about his Byzantine based novels. If he's going to stick so close to what actually happened why doesn't he just write a historical novel and be done with it? What's the gain of making it a Fantasy? He does use a very small, (but also rather important) bit of magic in his plot but I think that could be inserted into a historical just as well.
