My Review of Vol 1:

I’m pretty sure I lack the vocabulary to accurately convey how incredible the opening volume of Saga is but I will try. We begin with two star crossed lovers, and their forbidden union forged when Alana was Marko's gaoler. They are two sides of a galactic wide war, and it quickly becomes clear that several parties will do anything to sever their union.

The first thing that struck me about Saga was the incredible illustrations by Fiona Staples which really brought the action to life. Vibrant, yet moody they capture the atmosphere perfectly and add so much to the overall package. Taking inspiration from the best parts of Fantasy and Sci Fi, Brian K. Vaughans writing is incredible. For me the greatest draw is the realism of all his characters, each so lifelike, with realistic goals and motivations.

The world itself easily matches up to the quality of the charactisation, wonderfully crafted, teeming with intrigue and surprise. Finally the book is full of humour, for me, the one liners by Alana are a particular highlight. I do hope the quality continues for years to come, so we can enjoy a lengthy tale worthy of the publications title.

Anyone else had the pleasure of reading this incredible piece of art?

Got Vol 1 sat waiting to be be read (just finishing American Vampire), but on the strength of this and another review I've order vol 2 & 3

Oh you are in for a treat!

I've got Vol 2 in the post, Vol 3 turned up yesterday.

The wait is killing me. Let me know what you think when you do get onto it. I've also managed to convince my wife to read it as her first graphic novel, she likes the odd SF film, but loves Star Wars so maybe she will like this one.

I've heard a lot of good reports for Saga. I've neglected comics for a while and it's about time I got back into them. This sounds ideal.

Bought Vols. 1 to 4 yesterday. Really enjoying it. I love Alana's snarky one liners. I quite like the Will as well. I'm about half way through Vol2 and I'm intrigued to see what happens when the storylines converge.

Fiona Staples artwork is amazing.
