Fictional Places and Characters That You Wish Were Real.

I am a bit further South than Shrewsbury. I think that anyone who wants to get a real feel for Tolkein could do worse than walk sections of Offa's Dyke path, Hergest Ridge, see Llanthony priory, and potter around the hills and dales and small towns and villages of those parts.
If I could figure out how to do it I would put up a picture of the view over my garden hedge, which *is* The Shire.

Arrakis. I want to ride a worm to the deep south.

Also Ringworld. It's just so big.

The Culture. Although, who knows, it might already exist and Diziet Sma is monitoring these boards even now...

Possibly Tamriel - life seems so much simpler there. And they have magic and dragons and all sorts...

...but the murder rate is pretty high, and really even the most gentle of humble farm folk look like they have racked up a huge number of kills and slayings.

So perhaps not, unless you are a psychopath.

Other than that, perhaps the Lost island, just so I could figure out it out better.

I'll add the Discworld. Would love to hang out with Mort, Death and Rincewind (and the Luggage!) Also the witches always seemed like fun people to be around! :)

Fictional place: c
Oh! A few more (then I'll be done!:)). I would love to live next to the forest where Totoro lives, in Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, or in the spirit world from Miyazaki's Spirited Away (these from a 30-year love fest with Miyazaki's work).

I would totally love to live in Miyazaki's worlds too. :)

Well, to continue my Miyazaki theme, I would love to have been able to help Nausicaä, of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, in her quest.

And to help Naruto, in his.

And to assist the characters played by James Stewart and Grace Kelly in Rear Window.

Atticus Finch would have made a wonderful neighbor.

And I think Holly Golightly needed a friend.

Count me in for a visit to the Shire!

I'm trying to think of characters I wish were real, that I would like to meet, and it occurs to me that the characters I find the most interesting to read about would be so difficult in real life, I might come away from a conversation wishing I hadn't spoiled things by talking with them. They're either too serious, or too crazy, or too caught up in their own anguish.

Gotrek Gurnisson an Gotrek is Slayer, a dwarf who to atone for a shame or dishonor , must do so by seeking his doom in battle. Gotrek is wonderful and character tragic and heroic. and His companion and chronicler Felix Jaeger travel Through the kingdoms their world which has twin moons. It would be a fun place to have an adventure. :)

Id love to visit the Hyborian age and meet Conan of Cimmeria and go on an adventure with him . So may place to see there Aquilona, Nemedia , Dark and forbidding Stygia and Mysterious Khitai to the East. (y):)

Not to put a damper on things but: when I think of all the adventures that are offered in real life, the exotic places one could visit, and consider that I never had the courage for any of that, as much as I would like to believe otherwise, I have a discouraging suspicion -- more than a suspicion really -- that if I were carried away to the worlds of my favorite fantasy novels, and offered a chance at an adventure, I'd turn it down flat. Would breathing the air of Middle Earth change me? Would drinking the waters of Narnia inspire me with courage? I doubt it really.

So if I was wishing for an adventure in any of those places, I'd have to first wish for a stronger and braver version of me. Otherwise, I'd be sitting inside the beaver's lodge, taking tea with Mrs. Beaver and leaving the dangerous parts of the story to somebody else.

I forgot to mention a character! To explore Ringworld with (first priority being the life-extending herbs found there) I'd choose Silk (Prince Kheldar) from the Belgariad. I like his attitude...
