By Makoto Yukimura. NOT about Vinland, except very peripherally in first 3 books. (Have not seen number 4 out in July )

Is "NorsePunk" a genre?

First 3 books are very good for fans of 'the old ultra-violence', but also very gradually morphs a straight vengeance story into something both strange and intriguing. Not sure if I like the way he allows the language to become just a tad more modern in the later part of the story and far from strictly accurate historically but an entertaining experience IMO. Three big hardback Mangas so far and possibly many more coming

I didn't realise that "Vinland Saga" was being printed in English. I've been getting the fan scanlations by volume/chapter for years now. The fan scanlated stuff is already beyond volume 14. The story has taken a very different turn lately.

There are a few manga titles I like to follow (many of them historical in nature), and I always have a bit of a manga reading binge every 1-1.5 years. I take long breaks so that there is a substantial amount of chapters that have been scanlated in the interim period. That's usually the case, but not always.

I've read the first hardback, and it was good fun. I'm glad publishers are releasing more than one volume per book these days. The hardback itself is lovely to look at, its worth the extra few quids.

I'm not invested in the story very much, but most mangas do take a few volumes to get off their feet. Here's hoping it gets better.

I've read all he chapters that have been scanlated so far and I really enjoy the manga a lot. It has a bunch of great characters and a wide scope of themes it portrays. It is not stuck in black and white and tends to work out each character.

I was a bit turned away from the fandom and discussions regarding it though as most people tend to resent the more sedate tone
after Askeladd dies and Thorfinn loses his goal in life.

Probably what I like the most about those series is amount of historical figures, Thorkell the Tall among them.
Mangaka definitely made his research, and I like the fact that it includes more than just one aspect of the life of people from Scandinavia.

By the way, has anybody bought the recent deluxe books? They each have 3 of the original books in (and it seems like the larger page size means they'll save a spot of shelf space). It's been a while ago but I bought the first books and liked them a lot, but didn't get much further.
