I'm a strong advocate of reading Tolkien's Middle-earth books in publication order, which means that, after you read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, you would go on to The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. I suspect this volume is often overlooked. It's easily found in The Tolkien Reader, but this new expanded edition will be of much interest to those who, like me, have cherished the Bombadil volume for years.
Reading order:
Tolkien Books
and subsequent entries.
