This brought to mind the fact that there are some people who like only to read histories and not the what if; but the what was.
I knew one of these gentlemen and he seemed quite well read in an intellectual sense of having great knowledge and when I offered my first book to him he waved it off with the explanation that he was not interested in fiction. Later; after discovering that what I had offered him was something I had written he relented and took my book home. I never pushed or bothered to find if he was reading it and what he thought and this year he passed away without my knowing and I can only hope he took some small joy from reading.
