If you aren't aware of this on-line magazine then it specialises in 1000-word stories and is well worth checking out. My most recent offering is 'Morte ex Machina', an everyday tale of a cybernetic technician alone with his creations, after hours, in a darkened gallery. Nothing bad happens*.
