Any Pinterest?

Pinterest is a horrible parasitical site
Poisons search results. Often you can't find the site the images are (stolen) from.

It uses masses of horrid javascript.

You can't access properly without joining.

I think using a CMS gallery on your own hosting is better, or media gallery here, or photobucket of flickr though with most (all?) of these social photo sharing sites you are giving away control of your copyright. Creative Commons is barely more control than making your work public domain.

Well I assume I retain copyright on the 100000+ words that makes the book up.... And since there are loads of boards of books up there and those books are still retained by their authors I assume they're not wholesale claiming copyright of all those.

I'd be more concerned if I was using it to promote artwork or my own photography and what not - but this isn't much more than a mood board really. It says nothing about the book - not even the full name of characters,

It's nothing to do with the book.

It's access and image ownership.
Pinterest as a site rarely ever acknowledges source. It's nearly impossible to browse without being a member.
Most of the images on Pinterest are used without owner permission as they are NOT links to original but copies.
It poisons search results so much as you have to use -pinterest in searches.

The site is encouraging copyright violation* on a massive scale of images and is also a "sucking in" walled garden. It should be closed.

(* but in a different way to Flickr and photobucket)
