Has anyone read this? I've found mixed reviews and got a little bit discouraged :/

I absolutely love the Bas-Lag trilogy and can't wait for him to write more material set in this universe, but China is hard work, especially if English is not your first language, and I didn't really enjoy some of his other stuff as much.

Try Un Lun Dun, which is billed as a YA novel but which anyone can read. Great fun, clever and readable.
