If so, who would you like to see in the lead role and who would you like to see direct and write the film?

At one point Captain Harlock nearly ended up being part of the Starblazers universe.
 
I did see the flick recently. I believe that it would be a good live action film if done right. David Twohy directed Chronicles of Riddick, he might be a good choice. I could see Johnny Depp in the lead.

He would be a fantastic choice to do this film . (y) But who could play Harlock? :)
 
I've just seen this movie (it's brilliant in 3D btw!) and I so so so want there to be a live-action version. I've been trying to think of someone who would be perfect to play Harlock but I'm really struggling to think of someone! I don't think I'd like to see Johnny Depp as Harlock though - I guess it seems kinda obvious with the whole Pirates of the Caribbean thing? Harlock sort of reminds me of Bucky in The Winter Soldier, so maybe that guy?
