This was so unexpectedly enjoyable on so many levels - an intelligent and complex film masquerading as family entertainment with offbeat comedy.

It's impossible to discuss this without massive spoilers, so I'll just post the trailer:

Alright, some highlights:

The first surprise was that this a dystopian world, where everyone is supposed to conform. Clever.

The comedy was sublime. Favourite bit - for sheer unexpectedness - was what happened after they realised they needed a new hyperdrive ...

And the actual basis for the story, revealed near the end - very surprising. I was not expecting multiple levels of narrative in a film like this. Clever.

The ending - Duplo!

This was our family's favorite film of the year. For several years, Legos have been my 12 yr old son's favorite activity.

I've always thought of Legos like model building and have been known to be disappointed when he takes apart a set to build something I think looks ridiculous. And then I saw the movie and realized how much I sound like Lord Business, and my attitude has changed quite a bit. ;)

I now see my "master builder" as a creative engineer-to-be, not just an Emmitt who follows instructions. The Lego Movie was a well told story with humor, a variety of characters and lego sets from all time periods represented, and a great storyline for all ages.

This was my 2nd favorite movie of the year, after How to Train Your Dragon 2. I really love the humor, perfectly mixed with the dramatic moments so that you're tearing up one moment, laughing the next. Chris Pratt was perfect as Emmet, and he seems to carry that humor into his other movies--Guardians of the Galaxy and, from what I can tell from the trailer, next summer's Jurassic World.

I also love Batman. Can't wait to see what they have in mind for Lego Batman Movie.

I thought this was ridiculously fun but I wonder if the film has the same emotional impact on those that didn't grow up playing with LEGO.

I finally got to see this last week, which for anyone that knows me is a massive wait. I did get tempted into buying the DVD because it came with a free minifig. I am an AFOL!
I really enjoyed it, I thought the story was spot on, the humour was great and some of the sets/design of the Lego landscapes were fantastic.

My favourite line was Batman building alongside everyone else 'if any has black pieces then I need them, I only work in black or very dark grey'

My brother in law is/was even more or a President Business, when his son was younger and couldn't build the sets properly he actually glued one of them together to ensure it wouldn't break and he wouldn't have to build it again. I was very disappointed in him. I think he has seen the error of his ways, especially as he bought the Millennium Falcon a year back to build with his son.

A clever, consistently funny, pretty and oddly profound movie … about Legos.

I totally agree. I watched this in early December, not really expecting to like it, but thoroughly enjoyed it. I've since recommended it other people, but they just look at me as if I'm crazy. Well, it's their loss. I can't help singing "Everything is awesome" either. Apparently there are sequels in the making.
