Creating Names: Place, Character, Etc.

Indeed. The late Renaissance and right after is when record-keeping first became reliable in many areas - so I can do a decent amount of research on common names for areas during the time period, etc. There was so much death during the time that the various forms of mortality records began to be taken much more seriously. Combined with tax registers and parish registers, there is a surprising amount of information one can find about an area.
