I couldn't see any recent posts about this so I thought I'd start a thread.
Now that Assail's been published the Malazan Empire series has finished. What did you make of Assail and the ME in general?
I thought Assail was good but some of the story lines were a bit huh?
Jethis. I've a good idea who Jethis is but I'm not sure what the resolution of his story is about. Why do him and Kyle need to be companions? Especially when you take into consideration what had been said about the gods withdrawing and no longer answering prayers or communicating with their worshippers. Why is there a need for these two to take the places of Anomander and Osserc? Who will they be protecting people from?
The Malazan Empire series. Why call it that when 4 out of the 6 books featured the Crimson Guard? Orb, Sceptre, Throne has been called the sequel to Toll the Hounds and some things from TTH are made more clear; who the Tyrant referred to actually is but, other than Traveller, there's not much connection to the rest of the series. While I enjoyed the books, taken as a whole, they seem a bit muddled. As if Esselmont is throwing as much in as he can.
What does everyone else think?
