Authonomy

Also @Ray McCarthy, @springs and @alchemist if your books are finished you could consider this: http://www.writing.ie/writing-comps/conville-walsh-word-of-mouth-prize/

It's for Irish writers only, so sorry, rest of Chrons. If I've missed any other writers from the Island of Ireland who might have work finished, please tag them here. And Mods, if this should be a thread of its own somewhere else please let me know. Coughing and spluttering away here feeling ill so may not be thinking that clearly. ;)

Edit: I'm an idiot. That one is open to anyone anywhere in the world. I shouldn't really be allowed near a laptop when I'm ill....

Darn, it's only open to the end of Jan and I'm still agented until mid-feb or I'd have had a punt at that.

Re authomy, they mostly have a bad rep iirc - a lot of sourcing for votes, little chance of success etc. Unless it's changed radically in the last year, I'd steer clear.

What Ray said. I was on there back when it first started. It's all back-scratching and not a lot else.

Thanks, guys. That's sort of what I expected. I'm nowhere near ready to submit anything yet, but the Conville-Walsh prize accepts nearly completed works so I might submit what I've done for the sheer hell of it. Probably a mistake, but nothing venture, nothing win, as they say.

Hmm, 25c a word. I don't think I can write anything as short as 2000 words without it looking just like a summary of a novel. I like stories that size to have an unexpected twist in the tail. (No I didn't mean tale).
I think the piece of coast between Waterford and Wexford, that part of South East inc Waterford City, is the only area or coastal part of Ireland I haven't visited.

The conville-walsh-word-of-mouth-prize sounds more interesting as it's the size of my works and might lead to publishing (though less cents per word :) )

i joined authonomy, but it did look like something of a mutual admiration society rather than anything that would directly help my writing. a lot of effort required just to keep pace with other people. i've got more from both here and conventions.

I think my co and I will enter the conville walsh competition. We are 100% written, just editing and rewriting so that should be okay. Thanks for posting kerry

A so-called friend has just challenged me to put my unfinished novel in the competition. It was a sort of 'I will if you will' dare and she has a lovely novel finished so I said yes, mostly to make sure she entered herself.

Oh well. They can only say no and if they don't see it they can't say yes anyway, can they?
