Had a teacher in college recommend Gardner's "Grendel" to me after he read a short story I wrote in '76. I was mostly reading Sci Fi and Fantasy up to that point, but he became one of my favorite authors from then on out. Especially liked his epic poem "Jason and Madea", "Freddy's Book" and his two short story compilations.
