So I've read plenty of the RLJ theories, most of which seem to be based on this Tower of Joy scene that is apparently well remembered and a favorite among fans. I, however, cannot for the life of me remember this scene at all or where it occurs in the series? I figure it had to be in GoT because it had to come from Eddard's perspective, but I'm most way through it now and haven't seen a hint of it. While browsing I came across Eddard remembering battling Arthur Dayne and the like, but it's maybe a page and has no scenes with Lyanna other than the oft-repeated "promise me Ned." Is that it? If so, some of you should apply for Sherlock Holmes' job if you can extract that much information from a one-page scene!

soul, it is from Eddard's tenth chapter (Chapter 39) of AGOT. The Tower of the Hand has a summary. A Wiki of Ice and Fire also has one. The events of Eddard's dream seem central to the unraveling of Jon, Lyanna, Rhaegar, Howland, Arthur, Ashara, and even Eddard... but all we have is Eddard's dream while under the milk of the poppy. "...promise me, Ned." leads us all to speculate.

Yeah, that's the one I remember. It's not quite 2 pages. You guys are some serious sleuths to have made some of the connections you did around here!

As an aside, these books are a lot better the second time around.

I've even managed to get my Dad to start reading them. He's a retired English teacher who only reads literary fiction and has always looked down his nose at the fantasy I read. He's had my copy of GOT for over a year now and last weekend he told me he'd read the prologue and the first chapter. He said "it really is quality stuff!" Ha!

Better than my dad. He started it four years ago. He still didn't pass half of GOT. He gets frustrated because he can't figure things out. XD

soul, on my first read, I was proud to have comprehended the significance of the stag and the wolf killing each other in the first chapter... but I did not understand it until most of the way through the book. In no way did I suspect anything regarding Jon's parentage or dragon riders.... I only found that when a friend mentioned Jon may not be who he is said to be and found the Chronicles Network...
