hi I'm a new member.in searching for this book I discovered this website. I really hope you guys can help me.

I know the book was made before 1989 I know that It had a space shuttle on the cover.
I believe the main character was an American Indian businessman.

Someone in his company discovers a FTL Drive and that's about all I remember from the book.

If anybody out there can remember this book and send me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it.

This sounds like it might possibly be High Steel by Jack C. Haldeman and Jack Dann. More details here:

I thought so also. I bought it and some how got through reading it. Not it.
Do yourself a favor and don't ever read that book. Like your handle.

What was the major plot in the story that you found so fascinating and did the native american businessman figure heavily into it with direct needs to reference his nationality.

There is one other thing that I remember. When the discovery was made it was in some kind of garage type shop not a traditional lab and the device passed thru the wall at an amazing speed.
It is also not The Skylark of space by E.E."Doc Smith"

That really does sound like Skylark of Space.

The only other I have like that might be The Quy Effect by Arthur Sellings but I think he's of French origins experimenting in England and he blows most of the facility away except for the concrete and then if I remember correctly; he has so much trouble getting people to listen to him (its so revolutionary the scientific community tries to discredit him) that he eventually agrees to develop it with the Israelis.

Oh and it wasn't faster than light it was anti-gravity in this one so it probably is not it.
