Good jumping-on point?

Hopefully someone who's been watching this series can help me with this. I saw the first four or five episodes and wasn't that impressed, so didn't bother tuning back in - heard a lot of similar comments around that time so I assumed the series was a bit of a dud.

More recently, however, I've heard a lot of people saying the series really picked up and found its groove. I was wondering if anyone could help me pinpoint a good jumping-on point for someone who was unimpressed with the earlier episodes, so I can see for myself and try and give it another chance? Any help would be much appreciated. = )

I would honestly try and pick up where you left of, if possible - I admit, it can be a little trying in the early episodes, as they are targeted at "general family viewing" and can seem a little silly at first. But there's a wonderful backstory developing that will reference everything you see.

Episode 6 has electromagnetic phenomenon, and relates to the Chitari aftermath from Avengers Assemble - that's a decent story to restart with.
Episode 7 - The Hub - is a bit daft, but the setting and characters will be pivotal later on.
Episode 8 - again, can seem a bit low-brow, but important story lines are introduced.

Episode 10 is where the series really moves up a gear, and it doesn't slow down after that. If you're really impatient you can start there - but you'll be missing key elements of the story that are going to come into play later on.

Thanks for the advice, Brian! = )

Man, seems like I was a little premature in stopping if the series picked up that close to where I left off. Guess it's probably best to just start again from the beginning and grit my teeth through the less-than-good episodes - it doesn't sound like there's that many of them on balance, and I'd rather have all the necessary plot information to understand future developments than skip ahead and risk things passing me by. = S

Think I might put it back on the watch-list after me and my fiancée finish our currently-ongoing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine marathon. = )

I suspect we'd have dropped out early, too, but we kept on just because it was something to watch with the kids as a family. IMO it was definitely worth keeping with. Haven't started season 2 yet - am waiting for the DVD release.

If you haven't already seen it, then Arrow is also worth checking out - pitched at a more adult audience, and again, a wonderful backstory. Far better episodes and characters, though.

Yes, I've heard good things about Arrow but haven't found the chance to catch up with it so far. One point of trepidation I have is that I know it features John Barrowman, who my fiancée can't stand (to the point she had a nightmare once in which she sprained her ankle in the middle of a crowded street only for him to turn up, heroically sling her over his shoulder and take her to the nearest hospital while everyone stopped and stared). I suspect I'll either have to watch it alone, or keep this fact quiet from her until she's invested enough in the show to deal with his presence in it - she managed it with Doctor Who, so hopefully it shouldn't be impossible...!
