Avengers: Age of Ultron - discussion (spoilers!)

I suspect it's because she trained to be an assassin. :)
Some of the biggest monsters in the history have had children so I don't see how being an assassin has anything to do with it, and it's not as if having a dangerous job stopped Hawkeye having kids.

Perhaps the fact that Natasha actually has a conscience and deeply regrets many things she did. Plus, Hawkeye is a well-adjusted person. Natasha was raised in the Red Room.

Furthermore, to address an earlier post, it is not necessarily the fact that she cannot bear children that makes her deem herself as the monster. It is the reasoning surrounding the sterilization which she can actually see as reasonable. It bothers her, but she can see the merit of it in her line of work.

What I mean is that she was trained to be an efficient killer - being sterilized was simply part of that efficiency, because it meant she couldn't have the sort of deep emotional ties that comes with family. In the film she's trying to show common ground with Banner, as opposed to Hawkeye.

I always thought it was more because she'd been groomed to be a killer from a very young age, and that being sterilised was just an extension of that. Because if she can't have kids she'll never be out of action for nine months, have a little human to feel tender towards plus as a nice bonus she can act as the perfect honey trap.
