I wanted to share a blog post by Kristine Asselin on what happens if - for a multitude of possible reasons - you and your agent part ways. I know Kris in 'real life' and she's a lovely and very generous person, and I thought it was very cool of her to share her own experience. Kris is with her third agent now, through absolutely no fault of her own, and her debut YA novel (contemporary, not SFF) just came out.

Being an agent has to be one of the scariest jobs out there. You have to do so much (and wade through so much) before you even start making money, and at the speed publishing works, I guess you could be waiting a year or more for your first pay. So it's not surprising that lots of agents move on to other things, and it not surprising that they sometimes conclude they're not the best fit for your work. It's nice to see someone prepared to talk about it (a successful someone), because otherwise it can feel like a very isolating experience.
