Works In Progress

I have tons of unfinished stories.

BUT

I have 3 actual "works in progress", one is a story that is going through a second draft that intend to submit to a science fiction magazine. Another one is a bit longer and needs to be finished, I really like that one too. I might put it on Amazon if I can devise a cover (I have no talent but I will try). The last one hasn't been touched in a while but I want to add a couple of chapters this week at least.

I wonder if other writers have similar amounts of WIP?

Ideas that havent been touched for eventual books/stories/whatever they turn into is up around 50.

Finished first drafts is at I think 8. As of yet, no real second drafts (obviously this is where my skills lie:cry:)

Works in progress, I have just 1. I only ever work on one thing at a time, once I've finished a draft, I start another project while that one rests. Then I should be going back to it, having a kind of cycle of drafts and new projects, but it doesn't always work like that:confused:

That sounds like a good idea

We are editing the first novel, have started the follow up, in the mean time I have written two short stories and the idea boards for a couple of novels. Im always working on more than one thing. 95% of time is spent on the main work though.

Where to start...?

I'm editing a pretty polished standalone that I'm hoping to self publish soon
I'm editing book two of the trilogy after that before it goes to my editor, to reflect some feedback on book one and to build on some themes. At some point I'll do the same with book three.
I have a YA sf currently stalled that I'm musing on
I'm about 12,000 words into the new thing and am having it beta read in chapter sized chunks as I move it on
I have a couple of short stories out on submission, most of which I need to check the status on
And I have another novel out with agents which I might get ready to sp in the new year if no one takes it as it complements the one I'm bringing out in the summer nicely. :)

Discounting short stories (have none at the moment but have had 1-2 being written at various points in the past) I've just got the two WIPs: a final redraft of Kingdom Asunder, and on the final, tricky, chapter of Sir Edric's Kingdom.

For large works, I think 2 is a reasonable number. Short stories can be done either in a day or a week depending on how long it is, but I think working on 3 large stories simultaneously might be a stretch too far.

Still got 8 episodes (including this month) of Zodiac Eclipse to emerge, 1 short story to be put up, and I've got 2 short stories waiting for assessment for Aliens, and Magic, Metal and Steam. I think that's it. Oh, and Sir Edric's Temple will be re-released this year, with Sir Edric's Treasure due for release either late 2015 or early 2016. Huzzah!

Edited extra bit: and I need to try and think of a short for my 4,000th post...

I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of this one. No pressure. :p

Now I have my teeth into the fourth major rewrite of novel number one (just starting chapter 3), with its two sequels marinading as first drafts. Then I have a couple of shorts submitted to magazines, several in competitions and four submitted for three different anthologies, two stories of which have been accepted. My memory is so bad, I have to keep it all in a database so I can check if the results date has passed for competitions (I don't often win!), then I can submit that story somewhere else.

There's always more than one on the go at a time. If the novel stalls, I pop over to a short story and scribble away, keeping the novel in the back of my mind. When I come back to it, I can usually see where it began to go wrong, then I cut out the dead wood and regrow green shoots of plot from the stump*.

*I should point out here that I am a lousy gardener. I only have to look at a plant for it to wither and die.

Similar to Kerry, I've got novel #1 on its umpteenth read through and edit, and I've started the second just to stay sane, while the third is fully plotted out but with no actual writing on the page yet.

And there's always the odd short here and there to dust the cobwebs off, which is why the challenges here are so useful!

Geronl, they're anthologies being put together by Gary Compton/Tickety Boo Press. The submission window *might* still be open [there should be threads about them on Chrons, and the official TBP site is: ticketyboopress.co.uk].

I'm not sure its still open, it says the deadline is February 31st July 2015.... whatever than means

:ROFLMAO:

I have one WIP that I'm actually working on right now.

But, I have about a dozen or so other stories that I had set aside over the years to concentrate on my Draconia novels. I fully intend to get back to them some day, though most of them are in need of extensive re-writing. In fact, the one I'm working on now is a complete re-write of one my old stories.

I found a chapter of a back-story I intended to add to the story on my old computer that I was searching through yesterday, this puts me up about 5,000 more words. Needs to be proofed and re-edited but it works (and I was at the perfect place to add it). I spent time putting short stories into an e-book on Amazon (not promoting it! I promise) just saying I did it.

I have one project at all times. Since my current project is at a point where I'm ready to send it out I'll be starting a new one.

I have one full manuscript out on submission with a publisher. So depending on that, depends what I do in the next 12 months. I have one project, which is a duology, but might get edited into one book. A lot of writing and thinking to do on that. A couple of other works lurking on my hard drive that need attention.

At the moment I am trying to get everything squared away with regards to real life and the promotional work for Oracle dealt with. Each week my health improves and my energy levels increase. Though having to work for a living does take its toll on the latter at times.

A bit of structural re-jigging on my last wip before my agent does the nitty gritty editing suggestions, and then I'm writing a couple of chapters of my shiny collaboration with HB, and then I'm getting back to a ghost story I need to re-write (but I think I've got the shape sorted and it's all written -- it's just not written in the words I want yet).
