Dragon Series (Trilogy or Tetralogy)

I read a series of books about Dragons in 2006 and they were fairly new then. I don't remember much about it other than the covers were similar to the Inheritance Series. The storyline is similar to the Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke. It's not the Anne McCaffrey series I'm pretty sure although I think it was written by a woman. It's also a young adult series. I think the 2nd or 3rd book had a gold dragon on the cover. Another had smoke. And I think another had 2 dragons intertwined but I'm not too sure on this. So anyway... the main character is a boy, there is one dragon, it can talk, it can't fly or breathe fire at first but it learns to. Now the Dragon Rider storyline confused me because of the mountains and the Rim Of Heaven because the books I'm looking for also have something similar. Also there's something about a Rainbow, or Rainbow Dragon... again I don't remember much. Please help I've been searching for these books for years now!

Young Adult. Meant to be trilogy, but is four books.
I'd have said that, only you specifically say it's not. So is it a pastiche / copy or fan fiction of it?

Bit older than Cornelia Funke's Dragon book, which I thought a bit more fun, though much younger and shorter.

Maybe confusing with DVD covers and films? Three films in the Dragonheart series. Is there a novelisation?

Oh, and Welcome to Chrons.

Its definitely not Eragon... I have those books. I meant I can't remember if it was a trilogy or 4 books in the series. I remember reading at least 3 of them, maybe 4, and that was the end of the series. It was also not Dragonheart. Again all I remember is the boy traveling with the Dragon, meeting other dragons by some mountains (I think the meeting was in the 2nd book), finding out something special about his dragon... then there was something about a rainbow dragon, maybe it turned into a rainbow dragon.

I can't recall a rainbow dragon in any dragon series so here is a list of dragon books you didn't mention in case any are either the one you are looking for or something you'd be interested in. I think most of these are too young to be considered YA though. The last one in this list, the Dragonet Prophecy has dragons that have rainbow colors but not sure if that is what you are looking for either as there are no people in those books at all except in a very small way.

It's possibly Linda McNabb - if not it's the closest story line... some things don't seem quite right still. Did her series have a rainbow dragon? I read a bit of the one series and only the summary of the other. The book cover is definitely close on the one. I do remember one cover specifically having smoke, maybe only showing an eye.
Also it is definitely not any of those other books but thanks anyway. I went and found a list of about 170 different dragon books and all of those were on the list, and I read parts and summaries of nearly all of them and still no luck.

I'm curious about this list, can you share where you found it? As you can see from my avatar, name and the long list I gave you - I like dragons.

One was https: //www. goodreads.com/ shelf/show /dragon-fantasy
And the other was https: //www. goodreads.com/ list/show /583.Dragons
The 2nd link has over 800... sadly none were the series I'm looking for.
Sorry about the random spaces it wont let me post this without 15 posts >.<

Don't worry about the covers - unless the covers are extremely specific (generic dragons generally aren't) then covers are a bad way to go!

Not in the list or mentioned is Chris Bunch DragonMasters. I read (partly) the first one and gave up due to it being so abysmal. The main characters name was Hal if that helps.

I don't think that is the series either but thanks for the help. I'll try not to think of the covers either but I figured maybe someone would also remember reading a series with similar covers. The books were actually pretty good, I've read so many books that had similar story lines but weren't the one I'm looking for. I know that the young boy didn't know anything about dragons... for some reason I thought it was the Temeraire series at one point because of the Celestial dragons but after reading the first book I knew it wasn't (also the books were written later than when I had read them previously). I realized I read them in 2005-2006 so any book written after was definitely not it. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. I've read 5 books since posting this to try and find it.
