Instead of building massive data centres that produce a lot of waste heat, why not distribute the infrastructure, so that homes can be heated?

A clever idea - but no doubt some security concerns for the long-term.

Also no use in good weather unless there is an air con install, which will be more expensive and less efficient.
Noise also is a problem as well as security.
UPS?
Also reliability and redundancy of data connection. The last place I worked with had massive datacentre. It had dual back up UPS, generators, two fibre routes and final emergency backup very high speed microwave link on roof.

This is also very old news. About a year old for this operation.

It's not a cost effective way to build a data centre. You can heat offices this way, I saw a decommissioned data centre in Switzerland that heated offices this way 20 or 30 years ago. Piping the heat to nearby office blocks makes sense. This domestic solution never going to make sense.
