I read a book when I was young, the human hero's consciousness gets transported to the mind of an alien being on a distant low-G planet. The alien being is a member of a thin, physically weak, green race (as i can remember). This Green race is dominated by a race of large, hairy, tusked beings. Given that the human hero is a soldier he takes over the body of the green alien in a attempt to fight the hairy beings. Somehow toward the end of the book the human's body is transported and reunited with his mind. Given the alien planet's low-G the human is much stronger in his newly reacquired body than the hairy aliens, despite a significant size difference. There is some kind of fight in a gladiatorial arena,(if my memory serves me right).
The Human Hero is a futuristic astronaut/soldier.

thanks

this sounds a lot like but not at all like still yet somewhat like but not quite...
Edgar Rice Burroughs Master Mind of Mars.
They do go to mars by transportation of mind but usually to a body similar to theirs.
They do have hairy beasts: one of which has someones mind transferred to it by the mastermind who can surgically transfer brains.
There are green being on this mars.
There might be someone who had their mind transferred to one the green men also; but not the main character.
I might be mixing some things up with other of the series but it's pretty close.
