Hi,
I thought some of the writers on here might like to know about this new free service that has been created by an enterprising bloke over at the K-Boards writers cafe.
The idea is, you join up, enter your books, and place a little banner on your site. That banner displays a random couple of books from a selection determined by your preferred genres which you set up on the site. Those book thumbnails are links direct to the relevant books page on Amazon. If you have an amazon affiliate account, you can add your code to your banner, and claim your commission for sales from clicks as well.
Based on the genres retrieved from the Amazon listings, your books are in turn displayed on the banners entered onto the sites of other writers who use the service who list the same genres as their particular interest. There is an all option, but I don't imagine everybody will go for that on their banners. Currently there are 62 sites in the list after a very successful beta/setup phase, but it would always be nice to get a few more SF/F people on there!
If the banner is not on your site, your books don't display on anybody else's, so you don't have to worry about people taking without giving. The banner is not too big and sits comfortably on the sidebar at my site, and hey, if it gets my books looked at, awesome. On the bookpromocoop site you can see how many times each of your books is viewed in a banner somewhere, and that is interesting if you have multiple genres represented, as the views can vary. They plan to add a count of click-throughs for each book as well.
Anyway, check it out at www.bookpromocoop.com - I think it is a neat idea and so far they are doing a great job. Any free marketing is better than none at all right?
