Hi - looking for a tale I read many years ago! Premise of the story was there was man who hid himself within a catacomb with many traps and pitfalls to isolate himself from the world (and I believe all the noise from people IE:psionics). He is eventually found and recruited to fight against the grey men. Our hero was deemed a "colonial" and gets an armor mesh embedded into his body which allows him to fight freely within all environments including space. I read the story in the late 70's

Greetings, SCbeerguy. The first 1/2 of your description sounds very similar to Robert Silverberg's fine novel The Man In the Maze, from 1969. But the MC of this book is a diplomat, if I recall correctly, and not a soldier. But perhaps take a look at the description of the Silverberg book at Wikipedia to see what you think. Best of luck with your search, CC

It sounds like Man In The Maze to me as well. So, ditto to Cat's Cradle's post.

Super! Thanks - I suspect i may have a couple of stories combined. IF anyone has any insight on the second part with the mesh armor fella - that would be appreciated!
