Just checking up on this - we've watched Arrow seasons 1-2, and are looking forward to watching season 3.

We also plan to watch The Flash at some point, too.

My presumption is that I'll get the most from these if watch these in the correct order - however, I'm not sure what that is.

Should we look to watch The Flash season 1 before Arrow season 3? Or is it better to watch them the other way around?

Or, conversely, should my family watch the episodes alternatively?

Alternatively. Because towards the middle and end of season3/1 there are a few crossover episodes that start on one show and finish on the other. Or I suppose you could watch either one first and just add in the crossover bits? But you will need both shows to make sense of those particular bits.

The Flash was aired on Tuesdays and Arrow Wednesdays so make sure you prioritise the Flash episode first for each week, otherwise when it comes crossover time you'll do what my friend did and get annoyed that you got it the wrong way around.

Also watch out for DC's Legends of Tomorrow. It's coming out next year and will feature characters from both shows and expand on the current DC Series universe. Characters such as Hawkgirl, ATOM, Captain Cold, Heatwave, Firestorm, White Canary, Rip Hunter, and possibly Superman who is rumoured for Flash season 2.

Cheers for the replies - sounds like this could get complicated, then, as I was considering signing back up with Lovefilm - but at 2 discs at a time, I'd planned on getting a film out.

Is it just a couple of episodes that cross-over, or is it common throughout?

If I recall correctly, they had two crossovers mid-way through the season, just before Christmas (one Flash/ one Arrow) and then another two towards the end of the season. Should be easy to check if you open the episode guide on wikipedia. :)

I think they were The Flash 1x08, Arrow 3x08, The Flash 1x18, and The Flash 1x19. IIRC, there were some other minor character crossovers, but those four were the main ones, I think. That said, it's probably best if you can watch both shows in air date order, so as not to miss anything. You could look at these lists for the dates:

Slightly OT, but I was in Vancouver on holiday last week and my friend called up to my room at the hotel and said "Do you like The Flash?" I said yeah, only my favourite show on tv this year. He said "Well, they're filming it right outside." So I went down to the car park and sure enough, across the road they were all set up and filming. I stayed to watch for about an hour but annoyingly the security people weren't allowing anyone to take photos. I did see Grant Gustin (not in the Flash suit), who waved out, and his stunt double (in the Flash suit), and Adam Copeland (WWE's 'Edge') came over and signed stuff - I had no idea who he was at the time . . . Funniest thing was I nearly got knocked over by Jesse L. Martin running to get in his car :)

08/08 is the first crossover, and the second is right at the end of the seasons, with 22/22. Flash 18 and 19 aren't exactly crossovers, they're Flash episodes with cameos by Ray Palmer and Felicity, and Cap. Lance and Laurel. There are other smaller cameos by Felicity in the Flash, and Oliver has a cute cameo in one of the first episodes.

The fun thing about watching The Flash together with Arrow is 1) gave viewers a much broader sense of an expanded universe and 2) The Flash is like Arrow's lighter side, so it cheers up the sometimes bleak Arrow world. ;)

Yikes, I've somehow managed to erase those two completely from my memory! Must be getting old . . . Going to have to dig them out and watch them again now :D

This exactly! It's why I love it so much. Especially Cisco :D

So - just to double check - I need to watch:

Arrow 3:08 then Flash 1:08,
and
Arrow 3:33 then Flash 1:22

Did I get that right? I'm just not sure which way around I need to watch the cross-overs, but I daren't read up on the episodes for fear of spoilers. :)

(Am double-checking because I'll be joining Lovefilm by Post again, and need to know which discs I need to get in for this.)

The Flash airs one day before Arrow. So you'd watch Flash 1:08 followed by Arrow 3:08. This one is a true crossover.

I re-checked the other one on wiki (couldn't remember properly), and its not really a crossover, more a special participation in each other's series. Flash 1:22 and Arrow 3:23 both have the other hero stepping in to help. :)
