Charles N. Brown, co-founder, publisher and editor of Locus, a multi-Hugo-award-winning magazine specializing in science fiction news and reviews, has died at the age of 72.
Mr. Brown was a nuclear engineer until he retired to become full-time editor of the magazine in 1975.
Mr. Brown was also a book reviewer and writer, and he served on selection juries for various science-fiction awards.
In 1968, Mr. Brown co-founded Locus, along with two others, as a one-page fanzine meant to promote a WorldCon bid on behalf of the Boston Science Fiction Group, only meaning for the publication to last for one year.
Although the magazine’s offices have been in Mr. Brown’s home in Oakland, California, since 1973, Locus will continue to publish under the editorship of Liza Groen Trombi.
