Has anyone read Chung Kuo?

I enjoyed it in parts as a series, but it gets quite depressing after a while!

I read either the first one or the first three. It was many years ago, and for review. I did not get along with them/it at all.

I read them in their original form back in late 80's/early 90's. I did enjoy them quite a bit, but the series was never really completed. I do have them on my kindle now and plan to try them again in their newer form. I'm going on holidays shortly and hope to read one or two during that time. I'll let you know how I get on with them after that.

I have read the series, the story is pretty good, with some good characters. The end lost its way somewhat I thought and got very strange.
I didn't like the prolific child abuse, it detracted from the story quite heavily. That was pretty much my onle gripe with the books.

I got to the end of the second to last book once and that was my thinking too. It just seemed like there was nothing left and the writer was left with little left to work with, so he went oddball instead!
