old book title- similar to ready player one and the last starfighter

I read a book back in the 1970's a kid was playing a gaming house, betting money against others to win a game pachinko, and also ate his first banana- he became very good at this pachinko game and won money, and became a spacer, or got to travel with the space freighters and had adventures----
