I'm looking for a good biography of Leonardo da Vinci, specifically about the man and his life, and the political world he grew up in.

I'm not looking for something that focuses on his art.

Any recommendations?

Try Amazon.com.

Looks like one is Journal of Inventions: Leonardo da Vinci, by Jasper Bark. Another is Who Was Leonardo da Vinci, by Roberta Edwards and True Kelley. Another is Leonardo da Vinci, by Frank Zollner and Johannes Nathan.

I haven't read these. I'm just going by customer reviews on Amazon.

Hope this helps.

I have one by Frank Zollner, published by Taschen. It does concentrate on his career as an artist, and is a pretty brief overview, but it's interesting. There's also a book called The Medici, Godfathers of the Renaissance by Paul Strathern, which isn't centred on him but has some interesting information on his world. You could also look at War and Renaissance Society by H.R. Hale, a very interesting book that covers Europe in general.
