Providence, you know, was named in the American spirit, and was one of the places Thanksgiving was first had, though I believe that holiday originated in Plymouth. But its name signifies the divine providence that brought them safely from England. That isn't the spirit in which Lovecraft wrote, but I suppose he found Providence to his liking, although he writes of the early colonists as debased.
