Has a nice mix of magic preferred main character has some (like most of my favorite list). But not crazy magic or mix of sci-fi. Want fantasy / medival times.

Sounds like you're a big fan of epic fantasy - so an especially warm welcome to chronicles.

Joe Abercrombie (First Law Trilogy) is one you've not mentioned that you may enjoy.
David Gemmell normally wrote standalones, that kind of connect to one another - Legend remains a classic.
John Gwynne is a new epic fantasy writer I've just started reading, and has certainly won a lot of attention. You may want to check out his book Malice, a doorstep opener to his (just finished) trilogy.

The Kane The Mystic Swordsman Saga by Karl Edward Wagner . The main character is an immortal heroic antihero/villain there are 5 books in the series. In his long life he's been a bandit , a king and sometimes a Wizard . It's dark fantasy series .

I was going to make the same recommendations. I never really considered Gemmells as standalones although after thinking about it that is probably an accurate description. I always read the books in smaller groupings: Waylander, Waylander II and Quest for Lost Heroes just to give an example but I can see how these could all be treated as standalones - specifically the Drenai stuff.

Couple of authors I would like to add:

Raymond Feist: Riftwar Saga onwards. Admittedly the earlier stuff was better (at least for me) with the possible exception of the Janny Wurts co-authored trilogy.

Elizabeth Haydon: Rhapsody sequence - I really like this series even if it seems to get no love.

Terry Brooks: Shannara stuff. Starts off fairly porrly with sword of shannara being a fair ripoff of LOTR but I think it gets better.

I really should go look on my books shelves! (although my wife hasn't let me unpack all of my books, so these maybe in a box still).

I Loved this series as well; I like when authors put a unique "spin" on magic (like Runelords, WoT, etc).

I see she has some books in the world I haven't read yet... how are they? War of the Known World Trilogy?

I have only read Symphony of Ages (Rhapsody Books) 1 through to 5 so I still have half the series to go.

Never read anything else by Haydon although I would do. The Lore in the Symphony of Ages was really inventive.
