Hi,

I do 80% of my writing on my Mac using Scrivener. However I've been lately using Pages on my iPad as since Sep I have been able to write whilst I travel (I've not usually written when traveling in the past) to a from the schools I work at.

I noticed that there is a considerable latency issue which there never used to be. I can type up to five or six words until they start popping up onscreen. It's starting to get annoying and I am looking for another app with basic word processing.

Any tablet owners have anything they particularly like writing on that I could check out? Obviously I am looking for something Apple or compatible as my house has been a PC-free zone since 2009 :D

Get a £50 android tablet with keyboard cover included. Several free writing apps* with ZERO latency even on a really rubbish phone / tablet. Your iPad app must be total garbage.
Or a net book and install Linux Mint (Mate or XFCE desktops).

[*I use free "JotterPad X" on my old Z1 Sony phone and my cheap garbage Android tablet, if not using Notepad++ (via WINE on Linux) or Libre Office on Linux (Though I still have a laptop with Windows, but it's hardly used now). The Apple Ecosystem has a 30% higher mark up for same quality products and x2 to x3 price compared to usually good enough products. Apple is likely to axe the Mac and OSX line as they are small percentage of sales now that they have a tablet with keyboard and stylus.]

I use Ulysses on my ipad and Mac as it syncs them both via iCloud and generally works really well. Not cheap, though.

It feels a little bit like a cutdown version of Scrivener crossed with the classic "distraction-free writing" app IAWriter.

There may be a Nano trial of the Mac version around, and there's some good videos of how it works.

I've been writing in it for over a year and really like it. I've done lots of shorts and flashes with it and am now tackling Nano...

How is the Google Docs app on Apple these days?

I use that for everything except for finalizing a story prior to submission (which I do on Office 365).

Google Docs allows for offline editing, but its syncing functionality makes things pretty care free. Switch machines, and all your changes are there.

Thanks! I'll check them out this weekend.

Thanks for the advice. I understand the hook of Google docs and the ease of sync and offline features. The only problem is I'm keeping my exposure to Google as limited as possible. Which is pretty difficult these days!

Removed a few posts caused by a derailment, and discussion of that.

When someone posts about a technical problem, it's good manners to post if you think you may have a solution - and bad to instead digress into a personal critique of the companies involved. :)

I use WPS Office on Android and iPad, which lets you load Word documents, and they look pretty close to the way they look in LibreOffice on my laptop. It's free, but does work better with a Bluetooth keyboard than just a touchscreen.
