I recently read a book I enjoyed very much by John Flanagan. It's called The Ruins of Gorlan.
It is the first book in a series called The Rangers Apprentice.I didn't realise it a children's book when I read it and now am in two minds about reading the other books in the series.
Am I being silly?Should I not be put off by finding out it's a book for youngsters?

My husband read the whole Rangers Apprentice series with our son (about 11 books) and got really territorial about doing the bedtime reading because he had to know how things turned out. I liked the Brotherband series (which is John Falangan's next set of books -- also for kids). Why deny yourself the pleasure just because he wrote them for kids? (actually, he wrote The Rangers Apprentice stories for his son, so lots of people are reading them without being the person they were written for...)

(and I think this belongs in it's own thread, so I have put it in one)

I am in two minds about reading the series.Yes,it is well written and the stories are enjoyable - oh dash it,I will read the series!
Reading is all about enjoyment after all.:D

I say go for it. I'll read anything from childrens to YA to down right grim and nasty, like Game of Thrones, and I couldn't care less. If it's a good read, that's all that matters! :)

You're right Juliana, that is all that matters.
I read all the ASOIAF books as they came out,it seems a long time ago now.
One series I ploughed all the way through was The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.
I began to enjoy them less and less as the violence in them escalated.
I had to finish them though,as my sister, my best friend and I bought the complete series between us.
I think we were all glad when we got to the end.
